In 1991 I saw Robin Hood in the theatre eleven times. It was the summer before 8th grade and I spent it in Singapore visiting my dad. That movie was my escape and not incidentally the first time I took note of the credits. Huh, people make these for a living?
Five years later, I left Houston for film school and have spent the better part of the last two decades hunting down my earliest career aspirations. I’ve penned several unproduced screenplays, directed countless short films and television spots, and just last year premiered my first feature-length doc on Showtime. Given the chance to see where the ambition born in a Singapore movie house took him, I think middle school Trey would be reasonably impressed, but far from satisfied.
